GALILEO Information Guide

What is GALILEO?

GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online) is an initiative of the University System of Georgia, initially funded by Governor Zell Miller and the General Assembly in 1995.

GALILEO includes:

• over 130 indexes to journal, magazine, and newspaper articles;
• is web-based and accessible on and off-campus ( login required);
• contains some online full-text articles, books, and media;
• includes reference databases such as dictionaries, directories, and encyclopedias;
• includes categorized lists of World Wide Web resources;
• allows you to send reference questions to your local librarians using the "Ask a Librarian" button.

GALILEO is available for public use in the Library. It is also available in all on-campus computer labs and from all faculty offices. Just point your browser to http://galileo.usg.edu.

Music in GALILEO:

While there are no music-specific databases in the basic GALILEO collection, there are several general resources music researchers will find very helpful, for example:

• Discover (Search GALIEO) box 
• WorldCat - an international bibliographic database of library holdings (all formats)
• eBooks on EBSCO - fulltext electronic access to thousands of books (academic & trade) 
• Periodical indices (some full text articles available) for related fields (e.g., education, psychology, medicine)
• ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global
